What They're Really Looking For

The Why-W&L essay literally asks how you researched it. The prompt asks how you've familiarized yourself with W&L and what excites you. Name specific things — the Williams School, the Spring Term, the Honor System, a visit — that show real homework.

For the choose-one, pick the prompt you can make specific. A concrete activity, a real intellectual curiosity, or a genuine story about your name beats a generic "diversity" essay you don't feel.

Take the Johnson essay seriously if you're in the running. It's a full ride and the prompts (a work of art, a non-linear path, a self-portrait in words, a Spring Term course you'd design, a Baldwin-inspired reflection) reward creativity and depth — not a résumé.
