Admitted Student Profile
📌 JHU is test-optional. STEM applicants who submit scores tend to score 790–800 on SAT Math.
The Official Prompt
"Successful students at Johns Hopkins make the biggest impact by pursuing their intellectual interests and pairing them with Hopkins' resources. How will you do that here?"
The pairing is mandatory. This prompt asks two things: what your intellectual interests are AND how Hopkins specifically enables them. Students who answer only one dimension fail the prompt structurally.
What JHU Admissions Actually Looks For
The #1 Failure Mode
The "Impressive Feature List" Essay
The most common JHU failure is listing Hopkins' prestigious features — world-class faculty, interdisciplinary programs, Baltimore location — as if the student researched the school website. This tells admissions nothing they don't know, and nothing about the student. The prompt asks how YOU will make an impact by pairing YOUR interests with Hopkins' resources. The essay must be about the student first, Hopkins second — not Hopkins with the student name-checked at the end.
