Application Deadlines
Essay Overview
Drexel requires two essays depending on your major. All applicants submit a Common App Personal Statement (650 words), which Drexel evaluates through the lens of co-op readiness and professional direction. If you're applying to Architecture, Architectural Studies, or Music Industry, you'll also complete a major-specific supplement (~500 words). Together, these essays should demonstrate that you're ready to alternate between classroom study and full-time professional work--Drexel's defining co-op program.
What They're Really Looking For
The Official Prompt โ 2025-26
Most applicants do not submit a supplemental essay. Applicants to Architecture or Music are required to submit one: "Reflect on your experiences, personal characteristics, and unique traits that have prepared you for the challenges and opportunities associated with your chosen major. How have these things shaped your goals, aspirations, and potential contributions to your field of study?"
The #1 Failure Mode
Describing Drexel's Philadelphia location and strong programs without engaging with the co-op model. The co-op is the entire point of a Drexel education โ students who don't address it signal they haven't researched what makes Drexel distinctive from Penn State, Temple, or Villanova.
